Mission

& Philosophy

Our mission is simple: to provide children with ample, unstructured time in nature both for its instrumental part in their evolution into capable, whole people and also for the pure joy of it all.

We believe time spent outdoors cultivates mental and physical agility, a strong sense of curiosity, a natural ability for critical thinking, and a deep sense of community. More so, we believe all the potential joy, safety, and wisdom of our collective future lies in an investment in our children and that giving them the chance to manage themselves not only in nature, but as a part of it, most organically ensures the success of such a goal.

A Thousand Mornings focuses on whole-child development. We foster socio-emotional, cognitive, and physical growth through our daily explorations. We will forge unfamiliar trails, explore fallen tree stumps, paint with crushed berries, track animals, and practice storytelling, allowing children vibrant, tactile experiences.

We follow an emergent curriculum; instead of dictating how and what we will learn, we let the children's queries and play drive the direction of our learning. Teachers are partners in the discovery, rather than keepers of knowledge. We respect each other, ourselves, and our environment, and ultimately spend our days cultivating all of those relationships in a way that we believe builds empathy, collaborative skills, intelligence, and wonder.

“An environment-based education movement—at all levels of education—will help students realize that school isn't supposed to be a polite form of incarceration, but a portal to the wider world.”
